HALL OF FAME OF THE RAGHUVANSHIES OF KATEHAR'
adjacent to the twenty-two genaration old abode of the 1st house of katehar in Kaithi(katehar of Markandey Mahadeo) 27 kms north-east of Varanasi on NH29 and 3 kms from Chandravti, seat of power of Doman Deo and pilgrimage centre of Lord Rishabh deo the first thirthanker of the Jain religous sect,to honour the great Raghuvanshy settlers and independent farmers and often turning out to be warriors of no mean substance who held their sway as rulers of the entire jaunpur-Varanasi-Chandauli belt of six to seven parganas for nearly six hundred years, immediately on fall of the Gaharwars around 1194 AD and are termed as Hindu -Kings after the Gaharwars,by Nurul Hasan Siddiqqui on page 134 of his work on medieval Kings and Land-Lords of Agra and Avadh. Hegoes on to say" For many years the Gaharwars princes ruled Banaras and afterwards they were compelled to retire to Kantit and Bana.Rajput colonisation does not appearto have begun before the 12th century. This is the period popularly assignd to the establishment of the Raghuvanshy power".Raghuvanshy King came from Ayodhya, the ancient seat of Raghuvanshies and married the daughter of Raja Banar,a nephew of Jai Chand, obtaining as dowry the Taluqua of Niar(consisting the parganas of Dobhi,Sultanipur and Katehar)
The Raghuvanshies are the only Rajputs in the district who seemed to have acquired a position of independence. One Doman Deo thirteenth in the direct descen from Deo Kunwar and fifteenth from the last Raghuvanshy King of Ayodhya NainDeo during the regime of Sikander Lodi held the pargana of Katehar as a rent-free-tenure,which had seen intranquility only once befor in 1320 AD ,when Ghiasuddin Tugluq had come across them and they had fleed from their Farm-lands.But it is not clear as to why the emperor resettled the said sect of Raghuvanshies ofKatehar honourably
Sher Shah Suri also had very good relations with the Raghuvanshies of this area as he had his Zamindari in Tanda across the Ganges from Kaithi. The Raghuvanshies bard Banshi Kavi has also dscribed the stay of SHeR SHAH SURi with Doman deo in Chandravati, his mud-fortress,before he was forced to flee by the emperors general in around 1545AD.
